Kunming Attractions

UNESCO Site the Stone Forest:

Situated in Shilin Yi Autonomous County 80 km from Kunming, is a set of limestone formations in the manner of stalagmites many of which resemble petrified trees creating the very real illusion of a forest made of stone. This “forest” is the result of the dissolution of limestone by wind and rain which commenced in the Permian Period (about 270 million years ago) and is ongoing. 
The forest covers an area of 350 sq km and consists of 7 main divisions including caves, lakes and waterfalls. Two parts of the site, the Naigu stone forest and Suogeyi Village have been declared World Heritage Sites as part of the South China Karst.
The forest is a unique limestone formation which attracts tourists from all over the world.

Kunming World Horti-Expo Garden:

This incredibly beautiful, well laid out and maintained Garden of around 218 hectares was created for the "1999' China • Kunming World Horticultural Exposition".
The gardens more than lives up to its theme "Man and Nature, Marching into the 21st Century", by  incorporating exhibits of garden masterpieces from provinces in China, plus 95 participating countries and regions in the world. It is a grand park for horticulture featuring "Yunnan Characteristics, Chinese Style and World First Class" exhibits. 

Dianchi Lake:

Being the largest fresh water in Yunnan Province, Dianchi Lake is also the sixth largest of its sort in China. Surrounded by several scenic spots, such as Xishan (West Hills) Forest Park and Yunnan Nationalities Village, Dianchi Lake enjoys astonishing view in different seasons from different angles. You can walk around Haigeng Park or simply take a cable car from the foot to the top of the West Hills. During winter, the Dianchi Dam is one of the top spots to appreciate the red beak sea gulls from Siberia.

Kunming Old Street:

Kunming Old Street is the last historical area in Kunming city, Kunming Old Street area still retains a large number of historical buildings and cultural relics in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China. The oldest one has nearly 900 years history, it has many memories and stories of the city.
Since 2006, Kunming Old Street began to rebuild. After 12 years maintenance repair of Kunming Old Street, it re-open to public on May, 2018. Once again when you step in this area, you could feel the busy and crowded of the past.
Kunming Old Street area east starts from Zhengyi Road, west to Guanghua Street and Yunruixi Road, south starts from Jingxing Street, north to Middle of Renmin Road and Confucius Temple.
Kunming Old Street makes people feel it has a power that helps time stay in few decades ago because there gathered a large number of historical old building.

Cuihu(Green Lake)Park:

Located at the foot of Luofeng Hill and the western part of Wuhua Hill, Cuihu (Green Lake) Park was named as “Cai Hai Zi”, meaning a sea of vegetables. It is said that there were nine water springs on the northeastern of the lake, therefore it also used to be called “Jiu Long Chi”, which stands for “a pond with nine dragons”. And today, due to its abundance of verdure, people call it Cuihu, or Green Lake. There is a saying goes like: You cannot have the authentic experience of Kunming unless you make a day trip to Cuihu.

Yulong Snow Mountain:

Located 25 kilometers north of Lijiang, Yulong Snow Mountain is the southernmost snow-capped mountain in China, and the ocean glacier nearest to the equator of all the snow mountains in Eurasia. Yulong Snow Mountain has 13 peaks, stretching 35 kilometers from north to south. Shanzidou, the main peak, is 5,596 meters above sea level.

The Three Pagodas:

The Three Pagodas are the symbol of Dali, they have a history of more than 1,000 years. The temple located in the piedmont of Cangshan mountain and near the Erhai lake. The Three Pagodas is the only building of the temple. Because the temple went through the war and had been ruined.
The major Pagoda, we call it “qian xun”, built during the period of NanZhao State, stands 69 meters in height and is divided into 16 tiers. Each tier is inlaid with the statues of Buddha. On its front, four Chinese characters are quite striking, meaning “Ensuring Tranquility to Mountains and Rivers Forever.”
